Programs


Community Family Guidance Center is a non-profit, Medi-cal certified mental health service provider.  The Center offers a comprehensive range of mental health services for children, adolescents, families, or care-givers.  Most services are available for Spanish speaking clients.
 
  1. Bronzan/McCorquodale (DMH) - Severely emotionally disturbed children (ages 0 to 21) and their families. Counseling/therapy, individual, family and group; medication monitoring/supervision; substance abuse treatment.

  2. Special Education Program (AB3632) (DMH) - Identified special education students with underlying severe mental health/emotional problems. Children must be assessed as eligible for services by DMH. Counseling/therapy; case management; school-based counseling program; substance abuse treatment; medication monitoring/supervision.

  3. Community Outreach Services (COS) (DMH) - The community-at-large. Service activities directed toward individuals and groups during a stressful life situation. Mental health consultation, education, and information to individuals and agencies.

  4. AB1733/AB2994 Child Abuse Treatment Program (DCFS-DMH) - Children who have been abused and adults who are at high risk of or have been physically abusive with their children. Counseling/therapy; home-based services; case management; transportation; medication monitoring/supervision.

  5. Family Preservation Mental Health Treatment Program (DMH) - Children and their parents who have been identified as having underlying mental/emotional problems. Referrals come from the F. P. Network. Counseling/therapy; individual, family, and group modalities; medication monitoring/supervision.

  6. Family Preservation Network DCFS - Children who are at risk of being or have been abused/neglected. Caretakers who have been or are at high risk of being abusive with their children. Intensive in-home counseling (1 to 4 times a week); case management and referral services; case treatment planning.

  7. School-based Child Abuse Prevention Program - Elementary grade children in Bellflower, Norwalk-La Mirada, ABC, and Paramount Unified School Districts. Classroom instruction that focuses on abuse prevention skills: second and fifth grade children, parents, teachers, administrators.

  8. HEP - Available to any individual, family, or couple. Counseling/therapy; individual, couple, and family modalities; medication monitoring/supervision.

  9. ABC Teen Parent - Teen parents/pregnant teens attending the Tracy or Cabrillo Lane program in ABC USD. Individual and/or group counseling.

  10. Brief Therapy - Children "at risk" who are experiencing less severe problems. Services are primarily preventative in nature. Individual and/or family counseling.

  11. STARS Intensive Outpatient - Children and adolescents who are experiencing "acute" mental and emotional problems. Focus of program is to prevent out-of-home placement or to facilitate an earlier release if out-of-home placement has already occurred. Counseling/therapy; medication monitoring and supervision; case management; crisis intervention.

  12. Hospital Diversion Program - Children and adolescents residing in DCFS group homes who are in need of crisis intervention and stabilization services who without these services, would require a higher level of care (i.e., hospitalization, etc.). Mental health services (individual, family); medication supervision; case management; crisis stabilization; substance abuse treatment.

  13. Transitional Services Program - Older adolescents 16 to 21 years who could benefit from an array of social services, including mental health services, as they transition into adulthood. Mental health services; medication support services; case management/brokerage.

  14. Foster Care Assessment Program - Mental health needs and assessment services to children in placement (i.e., foster homes, group homes, kinship placement). In-depth assessments and clinical intervention to foster children/parents in their placements; mental health services; medication support; case management/brokerage; substance abuse treatment.

  15. School-based Services Program - School-based mental health services which focus on increasing a child's level of functioning. Services provided in collaboration with the school and within a treatment team made up of the therapist, teacher, school psychologist, principal, and parent. Services whenever possible are delivered at the child's school. Mental health services; medication support; case management/brokerage; substance abuse treatment.

  16. CalWORKs - A wide array of mental health services to adult CalWORKs/GAIN participants whose clinical assessments have determined that they have a mental health barrier to employment. Mental health services; crisis intervention; medication support; case management/brokerage; community outreach services; substance abuse treatment.

  17. Children's System of Care (CSOC) - Children who are at risk of out-of-home placement, as well as high utilizers of multiple public agencies, such as probation, DCFS, mental health departments. Children are made eligible for CSOC services by a Interagency Screening Committee. Intensive in-home therapy; case management/brokerage; medication support; substance abuse treatment; therapeutic behavioral services; crisis intervention; case management/support.

Who Can Benefit


The Center specializes in mental health services for children, adolescents, families, or care-givers.  The clinical staff has extensive experience in treating a wide variety of emotional and behavioral problems:
  • Victims of child abuse (physical, sexual, neglect)
  • Major depression, anxiety, recent trauma
  • Behavior problems or psychosis
  • Danger to self and others
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and other related disorders
  • Physical illness caused by stress
  • Bed-wetting
  • Uncontrolled anger
  • Adjustment problems related to separation, divorce, or remarriage
  • Pregnant teens and teen parents
  • Substance abuse, dual diagnosis with concurrent substance abuse, and mental illness
  • Multiple placements in psychiatric hospitals, foster homes, residential treatment facilities, and kinship placement
  • Poor school achievement
  • Older adolescents transition into adulthood
  • Adults with mental health barriers to employment

Cost


The Center receives funding from many sources, including the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services and the United Way.  The center also receives donations form the cities of Artesia, Bellflower, Cerritos, Lakewood, Norwalk, Paramount, corporate grants, service organizations, private citizens, and patient fees.

Due to guidelines associated with the different funding sources, the fees for service vary depending on the type of service needed, residential location, and the family income.

Medi-Cal may be used as payment for certain qualified services, or a sliding scale patient fee.

Most clients will pay no fees personally.

Those with insurance coverage for out-patient mental health treatment may be able to utilize this benefit to help meet the expense of therapy.
